Monday, April 3rd, 2023, 6:10 PM 5:41 PM-New York City- 2 Port Authority Employees have been killed found dead buried under rubble at New York City's John F. Kennedy's International Airport, Port Authority officials verified.
New York City Fire Department, EMS and the Port Authority Emergency Management Service Unit Rescue Crews responded to reports of the workers struck trapped in a trench after 11 AM on Monday.
JFK issued an order to immediate halt action of immediate construction at the airport, according to Port Authority and JFK spokespersons.
In a joint briefing statement, Port Authority replied the employees were "relocating utility lines in the vicinity of cogeneration plant to assist the strengthening energy needs of the JFK redevelopment project."
JFK Airport administrators cautioned of roadway delays surrounding around two of its terminals, warning departing passengers to use AirTran to get to terminals 5 and 7, before removing the delinquency notice later on this afternoon.
Commercial jet airliner flights from the airport weren't impacted, Port Authority commented in a brief statement.
